Karin van Wyk

Karin van Wyk is the CEO of the South African Institute of Financial Markets, a SAQA recognised professional body that aims to promote integrity and professionalism in the financial markets. SAIFM provides examinations and training recognized by the JSE, FSCA and other regulators.  She is editor of the online publications, the SA Financial Markets Journal and SA Financial Regulation Journal that are the official journals of the SAIFM.

She started her career as an attorney and worked as a legal advisor in the retirement fund sector. Regulation is a special interest that was sparked by rewarding years spent at the financial regulator, now named the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). During this period, she was involved with the regulation of among others retirement funds, the debt market of the JSE (then called the Bond Exchange) and investment managers.

She was managing editor of the fourth, fifth and sixth edition of Understanding South African Financial Markets and wrote the chapter on Regulation.

She holds the following degrees: BA (Law), LLB, BCom, as well as a Diploma in Financial Markets.
