Christine Lawson

Christine Lawson has been active in the financial markets since 2006, with extensive
experience in risk management and compliance across the South African and broader
African financial landscape. Her career spans a range of leadership roles within the
industry, including serving as the Head of Global Markets Compliance for one of Africa’s
largest banking institutions. She currently holds the position of Head of Group
Compliance at Peresec, a leading South African financial services firm.
Christine contributed to and formed part of the working group that developed and
launched the South African Market Surveillance Code of Conduct, reflecting her
commitment to strengthening market integrity and ethical conduct across the industry.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Compliance Management from the University
of Johannesburg and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). Most recently, she became a
Certified Cyber Security Specialist through the International Cyber Threat Task Force (ICTTF) in association
with the International Compliance Association (ICA).
Christine is an active member of the Compliance Institute of South Africa and has a keen interest in
anti-money laundering (AML) as well as new and emerging risks, including cyber security and cryptocurrency
regulation. With nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of financial markets, governance, and
regulatory compliance, she brings a deep understanding of both the strategic and operational dimensions of
market conduct and risk management. She is passionate about promoting professional standards, ethical
practices, and continuous learning within South Africa’s financial markets.
