Odette Eybers

I am Odette Eybers, a female born and raised in Pretoria, Gauteng. I am married with two children, a daughter (13) and a son (9). I have, amongst others, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree obtained from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and I am an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. I have 10 years’ experience in the financial services sector and have also completed additional courses and obtained certificates in higher Management and completed both FAIS Regulatory Exams. I am currently enrolled for a Senior Management post graduate course through Henley Business School. I have very good analytical, legal, and interpretative skills and enjoy working in an environment where these skills can be exposed.

I have experience in Pension Fund Regulation as well as Financial Markets Regulation and have worked for the South African Regulatory Authority – the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) for 7 years in the Market Integrity Division. I have assisted the Division in all legal, policy, supervisory and compliance aspects related to Financial Market Infrastructures and Over-the-Counter Derivative Providers. I am also responsible for stakeholder engagement, playing an active role in facilitating good relations with other Regulatory Authorities within the Republic and have also represented the Division at numerous national and international Committees.

I have experience in regulatory frameworks and have been actively involved in drafting committees proposing amendments to legislation and drafting Standards and other applicable regulatory instruments for the Financial Markets. I also assist in the supervision and monitoring of compliance with the securities legislation of the market infrastructures, the establishment of an effective legal framework for Market Integrity, assist with divisional legal and regulatory support, and the development of an effective subordinate legal framework for Market Integrity.

I provide legal services and policy support to three departments which include Credit Rating Agencies & Financial Benchmarks, Market Infrastructures and SROs and Over-the-Counter Markets and Issuers. I represent these Departments in various committees such as the Financial Markets Implementation Committee, the South African Institute of Financial Markets, Joint Technical Working Group for Margin Requirements for non-centrally cleared over-the-counter derivative transactions.
